You can sit down at a table with a book or phone and photos made on the background of exotic plants will create the illusion of a southern holiday.
Kotchoubey Centre is situated in the mansion of duke Vasiliy P. Kotchoubey built in 1911-1913 upon the project by Aleksandr Tamanyan (Tamayanov). Indeed is a “miniature palace” with historic interiors, unique furniture and collection of artistic and crafted objects. The research for finding lost documents and other evidence of family’s and mansion’s life is being carried on. The heritage of Kotchoubey family is carefully preserved and presented to society via excursions, music evenings and balls.
Main Entrance Hall
Projected by an architect Vsevolod Romanov in the Romanesque Revival architecture style. The hall is a prelude to the gallery of main halls of the ground floor. It represents itself an original ancient Roman atrium with heavy oak doors decorated with carved ancient rosettes, dark pink plaster on the walls, imitation marble pilasters and white balustrades.
Creation of Nikolai Lansere in the Empire style for ceremonial receptions. The decorations are based on the ancient composition principles: by marble columns the space of the interior is being divided into three separate bodies which at the same time are connected with each other. Hollow metal columns are decorated with Ionic capital. The glazed half-rotunda opens the view to the inner garden.
Grand Pianos Bluthner and C.Bechstein in the White Hall
In the music collection of the Kotchoubey Centre there are 6 instruments. Grand piano Bluthner and two pianos are contemporary and three more are antique. Becker in the Golden Parlour and one more Becker in the Music Parlour were owned by Kotchoubey family. Unique C.Bechstein is a model of the XIX century – the transition form from clavier to the grand piano with straight tension of strings. It has changed multiple owners. Once the piano was saved from bombed house by citizens of Leningrad. After all the instrument has taken its place in the White Hall of the mansion since the second half of the twentieth century.
Created by Nikolai Lansere in the style of "Regence". The Parlour is a stunningly musical room with the sounds of Baroque that can be heard in bright shells scattered around the ceiling, with the music of wild steppes in golden quivers and arrows, while gold masks remind of the music of Ancient Roman Saturnalias. The room used to conduct family concerts with the carved grand piano Becker gifted by the Emperor Nikolai II. It still sounds and remains the main treasure of the Golden Parlour.
Billiard Hall, or former Parade Cabinet
The Parade Cabinet was designed by Nikolai Lansere in the Renaissance style in accordance with wishes of the owner: glued-lamenated par parquetry, carved plates of bog oak on the ceiling, brocade with relief ornaments on the walls. The heart of the room and of the whole house is the original corner fireplace coated with ceramic plates with family symbols and relief ornaments. There is a composition with a pelican and date "1547" on the hearthstone made of granite.
